Ken MacGray is a freelance writer and guidebook author living in the beautiful southern New Hampshire region.
He's written two books so far, the self-published New Hampshire's 52 With A View - A Hiker's Guide (2nd Edition), and the Southern New Hampshire Trail Guide (5th Edition) for Appalachian Mountain Club, which was released in April 2021.
His next project will be as Co-Author for the 31st Edition of the White Mountain Guide, also for AMC. He will be sharing the duties with long-time White Mountain Guide author and New Hampshire hiking authority Steven D. Smith. Their collaboration will be published in early 2022 by AMC Books.
The 1st Edition of 'New Hampshire's 52 With A View - A Hiker's Guide' was an enormous success, selling over 2,500 copies. There has been high demand for the revised and updated 2nd Edition, which looks to be on its way to being well-received.
Ken began his career in the graphic design field, working as a designer in the advertising and media industries. Before transitioning into writing, he was a member of the website development team at telegram.com, the online division of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette in Worcester, MA, beginning under the ownership of the New York Times. In 2016, he left the news business and relocated to New Hampshire to be closer to the mountains he loves. He's also a photographer but prefers to continue that as a hobby instead of a profession.
He’s a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club’s 4,000 footer club and has completed two rounds of the 52 With A View, among other hiking accomplishments. He has hiked extensively throughout New Hampshire and New England, and can usually be found wandering throughout the hills of the region, exploring new places both on and off the beaten path.
